Synopsis

Millions of screens shut down and millions of machines stop at the same moment. Electricity is cut off. General shutdown... Frank has devoted his life to create the most powerful worldwide computer control system and it has just broken down in one second. Around him, there is panic and general incomprehension. His associate and friend, Bryan, keeps calm while the investigation opens to find out who might be behind this catastrophe.

Since October 11th, 1999, Microsoft has formed an alliance with more than 200 companies (IBM, HP, Compaq, INTEL,...) to create the TCPA: Trusted Computing Plateform Alliance. The goal is to put on the market a new generation of computers equipped with a TCPA chip that makes it possible to control the access and the use of computers, via the Internet, from a control center held by private or public bodies. Officially, the purpose of the TCPA is to put an end to piracy. The truth is that, behind this well-intentioned measures in favor of copyright and computer trust, this system puts disproportionate censure and control power in the hands of a private lobby.

EXT / DAY - By the sea, hot sun

A wooden signpost with the words "Cape York" and the logo of a kangaroo. The signpost is rooted into the ground. White soil, burned by the sun, with one grey stone in the middle of the road. The sound of an engine... The front tyre of a car stops beside the stone. The bus door opens. Frank's shoes are covered with white dust. He gets out, the door shuts behind him. He begins to walk. His trousers are beige with broad pockets on the sides. The bus drives away. Frank holds a manuscript in his hand. He is wearing a sky-blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up. His face is tough, bronzed and slightly shiny from perspiration; he looks around forty. His eyes are hidden behind large sunglasses. He stops. In front of him, there is a wooden bungalow facing a beach bordered by palm trees and which gives on to the ocean.

The world has changed since "FAT" Monday...

EXT / DAY - Streets of New-York

New-York, early morning. A street sign: "Wall Street". Men wearing shirts with the sleeves rolled up and ties undone are pouring onto the streets, looking at each VARIOUS in confusion.
